Søborg Chair

Børge Mogensen suunnitteli Søborg Chair-tuolin vuonna 1950 tavoitteenaan luoda moderni, käsityömäisen laadukas ja linjakas tuoli, jonka istuinmukavuus olisi omaa luokkaansa. Tyylikkään moderni ja samalla klassinen tuoli onkin saavuttanut suurta suosiota esimerkiksi ravintolasisustuksissa, sillä sen mitoituksen väljyys todella takaa istuinmukavuuden. Nettikaupassamme olevan tammisen version lisäksi tuolia on saatavilla pintakäsittelyltään toisenlaisena, petsattuna, mustana sekä pehmustettuina versioina. Jos olet kiinnostunut näistä versioista, ota yhteyttä suoraan liikkeisiimme.

Wooden chair with seat and back in veneered oak and solid oak frame. The Søborg chair was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1950 with the ambition to combine industrial properties with traditional cabinet-maker’s principles. The seat is available with or without upholstery, and the generous proportions of the chair invite many hours of use. MORE ABOUT THE FURNITURE Being a very contemporary design, the Søborg chair bridges contrasts, between industrial and handcrafted solutions, the textural properties of solid wood, plywood and steel - and between a lightweight and solidly grounded expression. In the late 1940’s, Børge Mogensen started to explore working with moulded plywood. After presenting an experimental shell chair in 1949 he chose to unite the plywood with his signatue functionalism based on cabinetmaker’s principles and rigid aesthetics. The result was the Søborg chair with wooden frame – a chair that was presented first in 1950. The Søborg-chair was designed with the intention to make a shell chair that could be produced with new machinery of the times. The generous seat and back design, in Mogensen’s favourite materials, was the beginning of a shape seen in works throughout the rest of his career In 1952 Mogensen expanded the series with a steel framed chair. Working with steel was an exception in Mogensen’s work, but the execution is typical of Mogensen. By adding features like the slightly coned legs Mogensen used techniques from the cabinetmaker’s tradition in the execution of the steel. The chairs thus have an expression that feels both industrial and handcrafted. Fredericia relaunched the Søborg chairs in 2014 to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Børge Mogensen’s birth. In line with Mogensen’s original ambition with the series, we have updated the features of the chair for contemporary production and lifestyle.
